Community Building Committee

The Community-Building Commission (CBC) was formed out of the Listening Sessions that were facilitated by Dave Ebenhoh in January 2008. Dave Ebenhoh listed reasons, taken from the listening sessions, why this formation commission was created including: to strengthen connections between members of our parish community, to unify and bring our community together, to help our community deepen and grow both spiritually and socially, and to increase our sense of responsibility and ownership for our parish.

The by-laws of the Archdiocese of St. Louis require a Formation Commission at every parish, and since the reasons above for the CBC are comparable to the diocesan purposes of a formation commission, the CBC became our parish Formation Commission, under the Parish Council, just as our other Commissions (Liturgy, Finance, and Social Concerns) are also under the Parish Council.

The CBC formed a mission statement to put into focus our purpose for the parish.

“The St. John Community-Building Commission will serve in the role of the Parish Council’s Christian Formation Commission. Guided and strengthened by the Holy Spirit we will assist this community to grow more fully into a People of God by fostering a living faith and ownership of our parish. We will help all members to grow spiritually and socially by our regular assessment of the strengths, weaknesses, and needs of all parishioners so that all may be offered the most personally enriching activities and programs of our parish and to foster the Kingdom of God to all our brothers and sisters by following the actions of Jesus Christ.“

This commission participates in action-resulting meetings designed to enhance ministries and organizations at our parish.
